The availability of well-prepared, practical and composed teams of dentists and assistants is a key part of disaster preparedness planning for New South Wales. Accurately prepared dental records are vital for identification of missing persons or victims of mass disasters. The aim of this course is to provide dental assistants with information about what is required when assisting with forensic identification. You’ll receive a valuable update on what constitutes a first-class dental record in everyday practice. The course also covers the legal responsibilities surrounding the reporting of suspected child abuse cases. Practical components of the course include a mortuary tour and a disaster victim identification exercise. Using the Interpol Disaster Victim Identification protocol for dental examination, clinical materials will be examined and details recorded and cross-checked with available clinical histories.
